I recently did an instagram story where I brought up this idea that in book coaching I tend to run into two different people.
People who hate (like “loathe entirely”) writing because they say they are bad at it
OR
People who love writing despite thinking they are bad at it.
In this podcast, I struggle with the lack of what I like to call “category 3” person, someone who loves writing AND thinks they are good at it. I muse over the reasons why and how it might be an internalized mythos that society feeds us, that regardless of how we feel about the act of writing we are going to be inherently bad at it.
Maybe as writers we are just humble about our skill level. Maybe. But I get stuck on the idea that people who love writing feel the same way about themselves that people who hate writing feel, especially those use their supposed lack of skill for their reason for hating it.
