The Stories We Carry, The Stories We Shape
Writing through trauma, finding catharsis, and what comes next
I’ve been talking a lot about Origins lately—thank you for the support, the curiosity, and the quiet messages from readers who already feel seen by Marilyn’s story. It means more than I can say.
Just a quick note before we shift gears: ARC copies of Origins will be available very soon, and I’ll be sharing how to request one in the next post. If you love early access to strange, lyrical stories about cursed girls, pool halls, and music that opens doors, stay tuned.
But today, I want to talk about something deeper.
🎤 I’m Speaking at the 2025 Contemporary Romance Writers Conference
This July, I’ll be joining an incredible lineup of authors, editors, and creatives at the Contemporary Romance Writers Conference. I’ll be speaking on a topic that’s deeply personal to me: writing trauma without glamorizing it, and how to turn pain into something that feels both cathartic and creatively productive.
I believe stories can be a form of reclamation. That writing about trauma—whether it’s personal, inherited, or imagined—can be a way to make meaning out of chaos. But it’s also delicate work. It requires care, boundaries, and a deep respect for the reader and the self.
In my session, I’ll be sharing tools I’ve used to write through my own difficult material, how I protect my emotional energy while doing so, and how I’ve helped others shape their experiences into fiction that heals without re-traumatizing. It’s a subject close to my heart, and one I’ve spent years navigating both on the page and in my own life.
As a neurodivergent writer, I know how overwhelming it can be to translate lived experience into fiction that feels honest, cathartic, and safe. That’s why I’ve created resources to support others doing this work:
